Completed! Ban Kothong Agricultural Production Access Road: Paving the Way for Increased Income and Improved Livelihoods

The spot improvement sub-Activity for the Agricultural production access road in Ban Kothong, Nonghed District, Xiengkhouang Province, implemented under the CLEAR Project, has now reached 100% completion.

Ban Kothong is a Hmong ethnic village where primary livelihoods rely on upland maize, upland rice cultivation, and livestock rearing. This Climate Resilience infrastructure upgrade directly benefits 336 villagers (including 156 women). Moving forward, villagers will experience increased incomes due to easier transport of agricultural products from farms to markets, significantly reduced transportation costs, and the newfound ability to utilize agricultural machinery to boost production capacity thanks to the improved road access.

 

Technical Scope of Work:

  • Road surface grading and side drainage ditch construction along the entire 4,850-meter alignment.
  • Construction of stone masonry side drainage structures for 57 meters to prevent severe erosion.
  • Installation of 6 concrete pipe culverts for effective cross-drainage.
  • Reinforced concrete pavement casting at 3 critical steep sections, covering a total length of 181 meters.

Financial Summary:

  • Total Construction Cost: 775,436,850 LAK
  • Community Contribution: 46,000,000 LAK

Operations & Maintenance (O&M):

The road has been officially handed over to the community for long-term ownership and utilization. To ensure sustainability, the Nonghed CLEAR team co-operated with concern Sectors provided comprehensive O&M training. The community has proactively established a road maintenance fund to self-finance future routine repairs, ensuring the infrastructure remains resilient and functional for years to come.
