Multi-Media Peer Learning (MMPL), or “Peer-to-Peer Learning Media,” is an important tool used by the CLEAR Project to enable mothers — especially ethnic minority women who cannot read or write — to effectively access information and learn. The details are as follows:
– Use of Visual and Audio Media Instead of Text:
The project emphasizes the use of images, videos, and audio recordings to share knowledge. This approach allows people who are illiterate to clearly see the actual steps of practices and understand the content without needing to rely on reading.
– Use of Local and Ethnic Languages:
Videos and other media are created by community members themselves and presented in their own local or ethnic languages. Because the information is delivered in the language they use daily, mothers can understand it deeply, ask questions, and express their opinions with confidence.
– Learning Through Practical Demonstrations:
Mothers in the Community Nutrition Groups (CNG) record real-life videos of food preparation. These serve as “Living Food Preparation Manuals.” They can watch these videos on tablets or projectors provided by the project to learn how to prepare nutritious supplementary food for children or to improve family meals.
– Sharing Experiences Among Peers:
Videos created by mothers from one group are shared with mothers in other villages through social media platforms or by nutrition staff who bring tablets to villages without internet access. This allows them to see successful examples from “peers” who live in similar circumstances, which creates stronger motivation for behavioral change.
– Empowerment and Participation:
By enabling mothers to create the media themselves (with support from nutrition staff), they gain a greater role and voice in the community. The project is designed to ensure that illiterate women are not excluded from planning and decision-making processes.
In summary, Multi-Media Peer Learning is an effective way to overcome language and literacy barriers. It enables mothers to learn new techniques for child care and income generation independently and with ease.
