Community Livelihoods Enhancement and Resilience (CLEAR) Project

Why the graduation approach

As CLEAR has started to entry into a batch of new 220 villages (CLEAR phase 2), field teams are facing high work load and need to managing their time serving both phase 1 and phase 2 villages as well as nutrition and VDP activities. The graduation approach shall help to inform workplans and guide where handholding is still needed and which villages can be left almost alone. In this way, enough resources are free to address phase 2 villages with minimum quality and to visit more often.

What is the objective

Inform monthly field workplans and budgets based on community needs for project exit of phase 1 villages – and handing over

Results

NYGs report monthly to DNOs and NCD team at central level on summaries available on progress of component 3 and readiness for exit in batch 1 villages

What is the graduation

The behavior journey of CNG members follows along four phases which are described in above figure

The journey includes below practices and social change

  • CNG members can run the CNG meetings by themselves
  • CNG members do food processing at home using CLEAR recipes (including storage to use the full benefits)
  • THR are provided every month
  • Children 6-23mo of CNG members fed eat least 5 out of 8 food groups
  • Produce some of the 18 crops based on season or region
  • Produce and use compost production, biopesticide and/or biofertilizer.
  • Shipowners sell nutritious snacks promoted under CLEAR (x villages)
  • Shade house produce is used for continuing CNG meetings (100 villages)
  • Food production shortages coped with wild food or food purchase

How to set up

The above list of practices will be simplified into three elements: knowledge, practices and FM/resources. For each village the team will need to check the following questions monthly:

  1. Do CNG members practice the recipes and feed all 6 food groups
  2. Do CNG member produce diverse crops for home consumption
  3. Do video producer continue to make videos and share on social media
  4. Are CNG members meeting with own resources and no project subsidy

How to use

Summarize the finding from question above

  • If the answer option is less than 50 % for all – full food package (X USD/member/6 months) and follow up visit every quarter.
  • If the answer is 51-80% – smaller food package (X USD/member/3 months) and prepare for exit.
  • If the answer is more than 81% of CNG members – (X USD/member/1 months) consolidate hand over and exit.

What to prepare

  • To inform information on food group consumption observe story sessions (Ask about yesterday)
  • To inform information on food production observe story sessions and use flashcard
  • To inform video production, check with Click, WhatsApp and FB page
  • To inform whether meeting continue or not …. check registry (lets simplify and what can be continued, only something very simple)
