[Savannakhet Province], December 15, 2025 – Ban KhaeVing is a poverty-affected village inhabited by the Mangkong ethnic group. Although located only 12 km from the Sepon district center, the village sits on a mountainous ridge with difficult road access. The community comprises 2 hamlets, 88 households, and 96 families. Their primary livelihood is upland rice cultivation, supplemented by growing broom grass (Khaem). Historically, residents have relied on insufficient groundwater from old boreholes, making daily life a struggle due to water scarcity.
Responding to the community’s priority proposal, the CLEAR project is supporting the construction of a Climate resilience standardized community water supply system. The technical specifications include:
- Drilling: Construction of 2 new boreholes featuring 150mm casing and 100mm blind pipes.
- Storage: Installation of 2 elevated water tanks, each 6 meters high, to ensure adequate water pressure.
- Distribution: Installation of 8 public tap stands distributed across the community.
Construction works began on December 15, 2025, and are expected to be fully completed by February 23, 2026.
Upon completion, this sub-project will significantly improve the quality of life in Ban Khae Ving. Crucially, it will reduce the drudgery for women and children, who will no longer need to travel long distances to fetch water. The time saved will allow community members to dedicate more effort to agricultural production and broom grass cultivation, thereby increasing household income and fostering sustainable community resilience.
